Online Microphone Test

What this test checks

• Whether the browser can open a microphone
• Whether an audio signal reaches the page
• Relative input level and dBFS signal level
• Local recording and playback when MediaRecorder is supported
• Browser-reported sample rate, channels and processing settings

How this test works

1. Select Start test and allow microphone permission.
2. Speak at a normal distance and watch the level meter and waveform.
3. Record a short sample and play it back if you want to verify the full browser input path.
4. If the result fails, use the error message before changing operating-system settings.

If the test does not behave as expected

• If an input device is listed but no clear signal is detected, verify the physical connection or mute switch and confirm that the intended input is selected in the operating system and browser.
• If permission is blocked, restore microphone permission for this site and start the test again.
• If only background noise moves the meter, switch input devices or check the operating-system input level before treating the device as working.
• If live input works but recording is unavailable, the browser may not expose MediaRecorder for a local playback sample.

Note: This test cannot measure calibrated room sound pressure (dB SPL) or prove a physical microphone fault. It reports what the browser can observe.
